Our Vision

Joseph's House is committed to a Camden where no neighbor sleeps outside, even for one night; where those brought down by poverty, addiction, or mental illness find a place of friendship motivated by the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, offering hope and practical help.

Our Mission

The mission of Joseph's House is to work collaboratively with others to aid the 'least of our brothers and sisters' by offering a continuum of services including emergency shelter, a range of supportive housing, and access to comprehensive social services.

VOLUNTEER

Joseph's House is a 'café' program which operates in the winter months only.

Joseph's House café operates 7 nights a week from 9pm to 7am; staff arrives at 9pm for setup and leaves at 7am after cleanup; guests enter at 9:30pm and leave at 6:30am.

The café provide a simple meal, coffee and tea, emergency clothing, access to toilet facilities, and space for conversation, board games, card playing, reading, resting, and television.

Café staff consists of a Program Coordinator, an Assistant Coordinator, a Safety Monitor and Greeters; the café also uses volunteer support.

Volunteer Opportunities

√ On-site direct service at the Café: 523 Stevens Street, Camden, NJ - 9:00pm to 11:00pm

• Assist with the kitchen and common area set up and clean up

• Assist with the preparation and serving of food and beverages

• Engage and interact with Café guests

• Ministry of Presence

√ On-site daytime hours at the Joseph's House office: 20 Church Street, Camden, NJ

• Database entry

• Generate "thank you" letters to donors

• Assist with getting program supplies and making deliveries to the café

• Coordinating café volunteer calendar

√ Off-site service

• Casserole Program: provide a nightly homemade casserole; Joseph's House can provide directions, labels, and recipes

• Donation Program: supply items from our Wish List
