ABOUT US |
|
Joseph's House
of Camden is a
non-profit
dedicated to
caring for the
homeless. |
|
|
|
|
This
caring
manifested
itself through
the successful
running of an
all-night café.
Throughout
Camden, but
especially in
the downtown
area, increasing
numbers of women
and men are
sleeping on the
streets, under
highway
overpasses, and
in abandoned
buildings. Our
café has brought
and continues to
bring immediate
relief to this
growing
population of
fragile
homeless. |
|
|
|
|
The café has two
goals: first, to
provide a safe,
warm, and
hospitable
drop-in center
for the
homeless;
second, to
connect the
homeless with
area social
service
providers who
can offer more
permanent
solutions to
homelessness
including, but
not limited to,
veterans
services,
connection to
benefits,
counseling
services, job
and housing
referrals, and
prenatal care. |

|
|
This winter
season we grew
our capacity,
saw many more
people, served
many more meals,
and much more
coffee. |
|
|
|
|
Where we had one
café last year,
this year we had
two. We were in
business for
three months
last year. This
year we were in
business for
five months. |
|
|
|
|
From a capacity
of 40 last
season we had as
many as 80 some
nights, 60 at
one location, 20
at the other. We
reached capacity
almost every
night. |
|
|
|
|
Last year we saw
135 different
women and men
come to Joseph's
House. This year
702 different
women and men
came to Joseph's
House. |
|
|
|
|
Last year we
provided 4,410
simple meals, as
well as many
cups of coffee
and tea.
This year we
provided 14,650
simple meals,
and over 30,000
cups of coffee
and tea. |
|
|
|
|
There were also
thousands more
conversations:
conversations
rooted in shared
kinship;
conversations
brimming with
possibilities. |
|
|
|
|
This year we
continue our
mission of
providing a safe
place to stay,
nourishment and
clothing, and
opportunities to
build
relationships
leading to more
permanent
solutions for
the homeless. |
